a walk down memory lane

A few weeks ago when working on the furniture for our bedroom I found a scrapbook that I had made for Brandon back in high school.  It was perfect timing as last week Brandon and I celebrated our 7 year wedding anniversary.  It's crazy to me that at 30 years old we have been together for almost half of our lives.
Here's a little walk down our high school memory lane...

(In case you were wondering- his apologies have not gotten much better and yes he used to autograph everything with his baseball number as if he was famous)

(we were the best at the dirty dancing lift back in the day)

Such good memories!
Here's to many more!!

Shades of Grey in Our Bedroom

All you Fifty Shades of Grey readers fell for this post title didn't you?  C'mon people...keep it clean.  I'm so not going there with this post!
I thought I would share my latest home project with you, our grey bedroom.
New bedding and curtains, painted furniture and trim and hand painted faux wallpaper walls...finally finished!

Parker likes it!  What do you think??

Who doesn't love to shop?!?-Vacation Edition

Sara from Single Thread Boutique in Huntingburg and Evansville was sweet enough to open her doors early and spend some time styling me for our upcoming family vacation.  Here are just a few of the looks I tried on and accessories to go with them!

dress     handbag    necklace (store only)   bangles

(ignore the random foot shot in this one!)

dress   bracelets   necklace & earrings (store only)

She even helped me transition this outfit for fall by layering a cardigan, losing some of the bling and accessorizing with a scarf and a belt.  How simple was that!

cami dress     pendant (store only)   bangles (store only)   cuff (store only)  cardigan   belt (store only)    scarf (store only)

Here are a few of the other pieces I tried on:

I had such a good time working with Single Thread Boutique...I'm thinking we need to work together again soon for some back to school shopping!

I can't wait for our trip.  I'm also looking forward to sharing pictures with you so you can see which items I wore on vacation.

I took the leap

It's summer and like many families we spend quite a bit of time in the water.  I began to notice 2 things with all of the swimming we have been doing.

1-The cost of swim diapers really adds up.  There's nothing worse than getting the swim diaper on and the kiddo in the water to only have to change the diaper a few minutes later.
2-A sagging swim diaper can really irritate a child's skin.  More often than not our diaper wearing kiddo would rather run around the outside of the pool and throw the pool toys in than stay in the water and swim. Which led to our major issue with irritated skin.

I was speaking to a friend about these issues and she introduced me to The Honest Company's swim diapers.  I went home did some research and placed my order within the hour.
I was so excited when they arrived at my door a few days later!

So excited that we went straight to our local splash pad to test them out!

So far so good...they were comfortable with no irritation and held you know what!!  They also have them in a more feminine red dot pattern.
Oh yeah, and did I mention that there are no harsh chemicals or materials used in the making of these diapers? These diapers are free of chlorine, phthalates, PVC, finishing treatments and heavy metals.

By the way, you should probably browse their site to see all of their other natural products.

I took the leap from disposable to reusable!
Anyone else want to join me?

A new chapter in life

"Life's roughest storms prove the strength of our anchors."

Sometimes things happen in life that completely rock your world.  Your life shouldn't be labeled by these tragedies.  A friend of mine recently suffered one of those life altering situations.
Yes, each day is a struggle and not a day goes by where she doesn't feel loss, anger and pain.  But she isn't going to let these feelings consume her.  She has chosen to find strength in God and channel her inner strength as we embark on a new adventurous chapter in life together!
We have begun our training and have decided that this event is practice for the many more adventurous chapters that we will write together!  I'm looking forward to these adventures and also excited to share them with all of you!

Since I have your attention I would like to take the time to introduce you to a couple that just recently suffered a tragedy and could use your support.  Jessica and Patrick Downes were just two of the many injured during the bombings at the Boston Marathon.  I am a friend to Patrick's cousin Ryan and his wife.  Ryan's wife Ashley is a friend of mine from childhood.  Ryan and Ashley not only share the Downes family name with Patrick and Jessica, but they also share a love of running.  Ryan and Ashley will be participating in the Boulder Ironman in honor of Jessica and Patrick.  Please take the time to visit The Downes Strong website to see the full story, find out ways you can support them and to keep informed of their progress.
Often when the days and months go by and the news coverage is over we think that things are better and the suffering is over.  But that's not the case. It's the weeks and months that follow where our support is needed most!

In the mood for nude?

Nude flats have to be the must have staple clothing item because I'm seeing them everywhere.

(If Pippa has them, then we all need them)

I found some Nude flats the other day at T.J.Maxx .  There are so many different ways to wear them!

Anything comfortable that can be worn with cropped pants, a dress or skinny jeans is a must have in my book!

Cucumber Smash

Most people eat them...but we decided to drink them!

On our recent weekend getaway in Indy, Brandon and I sat outside at a downtown bar for a few drinks before heading over to the welcome party.  Brandon ordered a cucumber smash and it was so good and refreshing that we decided to test our bar tending skills at home.
We knew what was in it, but we weren't sure the amounts so we just kind of eyeballed it.
 Here's what you'll  need:
 Sweet and Sour mix
( I added a splash of Sprite to mine)

I hope you like it!
Be sure to check out Lambert's Lately Create it Thursday link up!

Lulu & Georgia

I had this post planned for Monday, but when I realized they were running a 25% off sale that ends tonight I thought I needed to share it with you now!

When searching for an outdoor rug for our front porch I came across this home decor/rug website and couldn't help but browse for more than just a rug.  Here's a few of the items I checked out.

Ok, so the 25% off sale is almost over so you better get shopping!  Use code STARSANDSTRIPES25 when checking out!!  Be sure to like them on Facebook to stay up to date on their newest arrivals and sales.

I hope you enjoyed your 4th of July holiday.  We sure did...here's my High Five for the week!

1.  We finally turned Nolan's car seat to forward facing.
He's loving the view!!

2.  A good friend of mine from Florida came home for the week.  It's always great getting together with old friends and letting the kids play.
3.   We enjoyed the outdoors by "frying out".  Kind of like grilling out minus the grill and add a fryer!
4.  The evening weather has been somewhat cool this week.  In between rain showers we warmed up outside with a fire.
5.  Parker and I were up until almost midnight last night watching all of the fireworks.  Brandon had to work today so he stayed home with Nolan.  It was a pretty amazing fireworks display!
Thanks for stopping by.
